Noon - 1pC: COVID-19 has put us all in a position where we're reconsidering essentially every aspect of our lives in order to stay safe and healthy, and certainly one of the most difficult things many engaged couples are reconsidering is their wedding plans. Imagine you got engaged last year and have decided to go ahead with your ceremony as planned and then, to your horror, your cake arrives on the big day looking like this...
This may seem hilarious—if not, utterly awful—but this is actually an authentic picture of a real cake! It was posted on Reddit, presumably by someone in attendance at the unfortunate couple's wedding, and little is known about those who were wed other than they must have let one of their aunties make the cake in order to save some moola.
According to what I read about this modern abstract piece, the prompt given to the baker was something to the effect of "We want the cake to be kind of 'country bumpkinish,'" and the initials C+C surrounded by a heart are meant to resemble a brand burnt into a steer... or. something.
Another comment I found disgustingly enjoyable described the upper layer of the cake as appearing "...like an infected nipple." Whatever the particular aesthetic aim here, this cake is definitely memorable... Nothing says forever in cake form quite like this design; the mushrooms and faux flora really sell the pile-of-meat look.
The lesson here appears nauseatingly apparent... Just outsource the cake... even if only to the Wal-Mart bakery... can't help but wonder if it tastes like bacon.
1pC - 2pC: While we're on the topic of relationships, take in this guy's method of dealing with the inconvenience of a full bladder in the middle of the night and how his girlfriend feels about it.
I suppose I can relate with this fellow insofar as not wanting to go across the house in the middle of the night. That being said, however, I certainly utilize a pretty common time-prior-to-wake-up-alarm relative to bladder-pressure calculation when the urge to pee does come about in the night, like most of us well adjusted folk.
Apparently, this anonymous dude can't be bothered with that sort of thing, though, and instead spares himself the midnight trip to the potty altogether by ensuring his drinking glass from the day is nearby and on hand just in case he needs to relieve himself at some point in the night. If for some reason he didn't plan everything ahead just right and his drinking glass from the day has ended up in the dish washer or some other place, no problem! As his (also anonymous) girlfriend has it, he simply grabs a clean drinking glass from the cupboard on the way to sleepy time.
She further shared that her bae has a hard time getting back to sleep if he has to go, and while it would seem like she was initially attempting to be understanding, perhaps making an effort to help him get back to sleep if he woke up too much after a trip to the toilet, she eventually decided she had too much after the couple's cat knocked over a drinking glass or two of piss in the night—or even later in the day as full glasses of urine were often left to brew during the day by this character.
At some point, she decided she needed to express her frustrations with someone, and those feelings led her to post on Reddit, and in standard order, her post was eventually discovered by this UK media outlet's relationship column.
The takeaway here? Similarly to the previous tip regarding who you task to bake your wedding cake, this second one is pretty straight forward as well: make sure your mate is house-broken prior to initiating anything long-term.
2pC - 3pC: As a creative myself, I dig seeing artists come together. Doing regular creative work can be difficult, and inspiration is not always available. When it is, though, it's freggin' sweet, and in the case of Rock Music in the US during the second half of the 20th Century, I'm pretty certain many of the most well known Rockers—to us, anyway—would attribute some amount of their inspiration to the late-great Joe Strummer. This year they're coming together with others virtually on August 21 to celebrate Joe Strummer's birthday, pay tribute to his legacy, and conduct a charity benefit for #SaveOurStages. Here are some details about this FREE event.
Some quick background, Joe Strummer was a British musician, singer, composer, actor, and songwriter who was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of the Clash, formed in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk rock, and certainly made an indelible mark on the rock landscape during the course of his lifetime. He died in 2002, but his legacy definitely remains; I mean, just look at this list of appearances expected at the event!
